Tividale secured their first victory of the season in dramatic fashion with a thrilling 4–3 win away at Sutton United, coming out on top in an entertaining seven-goal contest. Following Saturday’s disappointing performance and result, a reaction was needed from the group, and the players delivered exactly that against a very good Sutton side. It certainly wasn’t straightforward. Tividale found themselves behind on two separate occasions during the game, but showed the character and resilience that had been missing at the weekend to fight their way back into the contest each time. Rather than allowing going behind to affect the performance, the response was positive. Tividale continued to compete, stayed aggressive in their approach and kept pushing forward, eventually turning the game around and putting themselves into a winning position. With the momentum behind them, Tividale stayed on top and showed the determination needed to see the game through. Sutton continued to pose a threat and ensured there would be no comfortable finish, but the visitors stood firm to secure a deserved 4–3 victory. It was a performance built on character, togetherness and a willingness to keep fighting regardless of the scoreline. After the disappointment of Saturday, it was exactly the type of response that was required. There are still areas to improve and conceding three goals gives us plenty to work on, but getting that first victory on the board is an important step forward for this group. Most importantly, the players showed that they can respond to setbacks, both within a game and from one fixture to the next. A first win of the season, four goals away from home and a much-needed reaction from the boys. Now the challenge is to use this result as a platform, build some momentum and kick on with our season.
